Creative Hands is a functional activity site which provides wood working, stained glass, glass etching, wood burning, etc to individuals that have suffered acquired brain injuries. It is a community where clients can gather and socialize with others who have experienced the changes associated with an acquired brain injury. They can learn new creative hobbies or re-learn old ones they may have forgotten but previously enjoyed. While they work on their projects they are developing their problem solving skills, executive function, as well as visual perceptual skills and hand eye co-ordination. The projects they create can be used as gifts for loved ones or donated to a charity to be used to raised funds for other individuals with brain injures that need financial assistance to access the program. This helps provide an opportunity for clients to develop a sense of meaning and purpose in that they are giving back to the community that has helped them.

Creative Hands is the only functional activity site, in the Ottawa area, available to individuals with acquired brain injuries. After a brain injury self-esteem is often shattered. Research has shown that through working on creative projects, one can slowly but surely rebuild their self-esteem, their place in the community and hope toward their future. The attached article about creative hands, in our client newsletter, speaks for itself.

Memberships start at 150.00 per month. The cost is determined by the support needs of the client. A Registered Occupational therapist will do an initial safety assessment for $150.00. The monthly membership covers basic start-up materials, workshop supervision, and use of equipment.* For more information please contact Ms. Suzanne Kingsley, our admission/treatment co-ordinator at (613)733-6313.

*Some Financial Assistance may available through the Wings of Phoenix Association made possible by funding from The Community Foundation
